03 C&R gun licensing

Any thoughts on 03 C&R gun license?

I'm thinking of applying for one, as I am interested in some of the older rifles I have seen advertised. I've owned a couple of older rifles in the past, as well as a couple of modern arms, but I find some of these older pieces much more interesting, and it seems they could be considered practical as well as a lot of fun. Prices seem pretty good, too. I do like the heavy stocks on some of them. Believe I would qualify for a license, but some say there are drawbacks. Probably main objection is further government intrusion into our lives via the more extensive recordkeeping involved. I'm just mulling the idea a bit.

I have a C & R license, the only record keeping needed is a bound book where you record what what you aquiredwhen and where you got it as well as type, model & seriel # and if you dispose of them, who & when....Very simple.

Right. That is exactly what I read about it, too. Just wondered if there was something else I should be aware of. Someone on one of the gun forums was saying he had obtained the license and was sorry he did. No one else agreed with that opinion as far as I know. I'm just the cautious type and like to check things out a little before I take action, especially as I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be about firearms.

Thanks, RR_58.

I recommend everyone get one. Then the goons will go to your house before they come here.

That's part of what I'm concerned about, and why I ask for opinions. Not sure if convenience of such a type of purchase is worth possible problems down the road.

So, point taken.

You're already "on the list" for posting here, so the damage is done. Why not get the license, too?

Yeah, sure, the guns that are fifty years old or older are the ones the government fears the most!

I'm on my second renewal. Has saved me a ton of money at places like Midway and Graf's that give dealer discounts to people with C&R's. Well, it didn't really SAVE me money. It just let me get more stuff with the same money!

Best $30 for three years you can spend in the gun world.
